  1. When listening, avoid jumping to conclusions about what the other person means.
  2. Instead, try asking smart clarifying questions such as, “When you say_____, do you mean_____?” or “What does that feeling tell you?” Sometimes the open invitation “Could you tell me more about that?” or “You said_____, could you expand on that a bit more?” will help the speaker to be more clear.
